High Holiday Technology

We want to make sure that everyone is comfortable accessing services through our website, Zoom, and Facebook. Additionally, we want to make sure that everyone can engage meaningfully in our services and programs. You are encouraged to read this entire message carefully so that the technology enhances, not hinders, our time together.

STREAMING TO THE WEBSITE
All services will be streamed directly to our congregation's website: www.CongregationRodefSholom.org. Once you are on the webpage, click on the High Holy Day 2020 link found at the top of our page. A schedule for our services and programs can be found at the end of this message, on our website, throughout the Ritual Bag, and in the September 2020 Bulletin.

FACEBOOK
All of our services, with the exception of Tashlich, the Family-Friendly Rosh Hashana service at the apple orchard, and the screening of Fiddler on the Roof at the drive-in movie theater, will be streamed directly to Congregation Rodef Sholom’s Facebook page; they will also be saved for future views.
You DO NOT NEED a Facebook account to watch services on our Facebook page. Visit: https://www.facebook.com/congregationrodefsholomyoungstown to view the services on Facebook.

ZOOM COURTESY PROTOCOLS
The following events will take place on Zoom: Yom Kippur Study Session and the Yom Kippur Afternoon service “Divrei Rodef Sholom”. Links to participate in these programs will be emailed directly to congregants prior to the High Holidays. Please remember to remain muted while using zoom unless you are speaking.

VIEWING SERVICES ON THE “BIG SCREEN”
In order to make viewing services for households with multiple individuals easier and more comfortable, we suggest you consider connecting your laptop or tablet to a TV screen. If you have an HD TV, you will need an HDMI cable (and an adapter if your device does not have an HDMI port). The appropriate adapter varies based on your device but is likely a USB-to-HDMI adapter or a Thunderbolt-to-HDMI cable. Make sure to check what connection is needed for your device.  After plugging the HDMI cable into your device and the TV, you need to change the input on the TV and possibly the display settings on your device.

INVITING GUESTS
Congregants are welcome to invite guests to join our services virtually this year.
Please let the office know who you will be inviting- as we are keeping a roster of attendees. If your guests will be joining Rodef for a Zoom or in-person event, please let us know so we can add their RSVP to our lists. They will also be on the approved attendee list for Zoom. Additionally, we will directly send them links for all Zoom programming.

WHAT IF WE DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE NECESSARY TECHNOLOGY?
If you, or someone you know, do not have access to technology to access our virtual services, please contact Sarah Wilschek directly- (330) 719-8047. Our goal is to strive to meet all congregant needs.

WHAT IF WE HAVE TECHNICAL ISSUES?
We know that technology can have many glitches. If Zoom or the other streaming technology fails to work during a program/ service the temple office will send instructions on how to proceed. We do not anticipate any of our precautions becoming necessary, but we want to be sure to share our ‘back up plan’ with the congregation.

If you have any questions, please email Sarah Wilschek
swilschek@congregationrodefsholom.org by September 15 to ensure we can assist you timely.
